Pet Surgery in Hingham, MA: Expert Care, Personalized Treatment

Surgery is an area of medicine in which we excel, and we're happy to also offer the services of a board-certified veterinary surgeon. This means that you and your pet don't have to travel to an unfamiliar referral hospital for advanced treatment. They can stay right here in Hingham, MA, and receive consistent, individualized care from people they know and trust. Our team can also provide a generous variety of pet surgery services, from spays and neuters to orthopedics. Do you have post-op questions about your pet? Need to schedule a pre-op consultation? Give us a call at (781) 749-2800.

How We Keep Our Surgery Patients Safe

As a rule, we recommend a pre-op exam and blood tests, and administer general anesthesia and pain medication based on your pet’s health history and current weight. Our main concern is minimizing any potential health risks while your pet is in surgery, and giving them the best chance at a swift and healthy recovery.

During surgery, your pet is closely monitored by a skilled technician and ultra-modern equipment. This allows us to keep track of your pet’s body temperature, oxygen use, heart rate, and respiratory rate. If any of your pet’s vitals change during surgery, we’ll be able to make quick adjustments to keep them stable.

Surgical Procedures

We can perform many different surgeries for our patients’ benefit. This includes:

  • Spays and neuters

  • Tumor removal

  • Abdominal exploratory surgeries

  • Wound debridement and repair

  • Dental extractions

  • Foreign body removal

  • Endoscopy

  • Laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgeries

Minimally-Invasive Surgery

Old Derby Animal Hospital also offers endoscopy, which can be used as both a diagnostic tool and as a tool for minimally-invasive foreign body removal. If your pet accidentally swallows a toy, sock, or other object that becomes lodged in their gastrointestinal tract, we might be able to use our rigid endoscope to remove the object. With endoscopy, there is no need to make surgical incisions and put your pet through any unnecessary discomfort.
